Children’s Ministry
& Nursery
Greetings Parents! What a privilege it is to be entrusted your children in their spiritual formation for the glory of our God.

The mission of the Children’s Ministry is no different from the mission of our church, but the clarifying responsibility goes to each parent in their personal involvement to cultivate a God-centered reality of the Cross. So a question can be posed to each parent to ask, “Are you interested in Spreading a Passion for the Supremacy of God in all Things for the Joy of the Next Generation?”

The greatest need that children have is to know and cherish the infinite value of God. Therefore, we want children to become so acquainted with the Word of God that they treasure Him alone as the One who saves and satisfies the heart.

The goal of the Desiring God curriculum we use is to fuel spiritual desire in children by exalting the greatness and worth of God and His glorious work through Christ.

The deep-rooted faith we desire for our children – a faith that weathers the storms of life and bears fruit for the glory of God – is nurtured by a systematic plan to partner with parents in communicating greatness of God, the glory of Christ, and the power of the Gospel.

We invite you to take part in a bold new vision for children’s ministry; a vision greater than the routine of recruiting volunteers and planning activities; a vision that recovers the Biblical mission for children’s ministry: exalting God as the source, means, and purpose of all things.

Currently, the Children’s Ministry includes children from birth to 7th grade.

As a church, we hold doctrinal distinctives that articulate key biblical and theological convictions of Antioch Christian Fellowship. We want to take this opportunity to share several distinctives of our Children’s Ministry for the benefit of all parents.

Children’s Ministry Distinctives:
God-centeredness
We believe that the Bible is a book first and foremost about God. The other characters in the Bible merely point to God. So in our curriculum, we have attempted to exalt God—to show Him as a great and almighty God. In every lesson, Scripture is studied in the context of the question, “What does this say about God?”

Depth
We believe that children can handle deep truth at a young age. We want to fill them with solid Bible truth that will give them a foundation to fall back on when they go through deep waters. For this reason, the curriculum we use continually refers children to the Word of God; Bibles are an essential tool for children studying Children Desiring God curriculum. We believe that the Bible must be taught in depth, yet in a child-friendly, interesting manner. For this reason, much attention has been devoted to the development of creative presentation of essential Bible truths.

Incremental
We believe that children learn “precept upon precept.” Truth presented on a simple level in the preschool years is reinforced and expanded at primary levels, and so forth. For this reason, truths are reintroduced to the children as they grow older, each time digging deeper and widening the scope of their understanding. Because the curricula build on each other, it is strongly recommended that the curricula be presented sequentially. Early elementary age curriculums should be taught in the pre-school through 1st grades; later elementary age curricula in grade second through six. (See Sequence)

Application
We believe that faith comes through hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). However, we also believe that teaching falls short if it simply feeds words through the minds of children. We want truth to be clearly understood by the children. Therefore, God’s truth is explained through illustration, connecting the known to the unknown. Because interaction with God’s truth is critical, children are encouraged to look up scripture passages, discover and respond to truth.

Theology
Titles offered by Children Desiring God have been developed at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis and have been successfully tested by and are being used in evangelical churches of many denominations across the United States and Canada. Bethlehem’s teaching emphasizes God’s sovereignty in directing everything to serve His good purpose. My Purpose Will Stand: A Study for Children on the Providence of God most clearly presents this view, helping children understand that nothing is outside the control of the all-powerful and all–loving God of the universe.

Partnership with Parents
We believe that before God, parents, not churches have the primary responsibility for the spiritual nurture of their children. We have made every effort to structure the curricula in a way that allows the church to “walk along side” parents, enabling and equipping them in this God-given role. For that reason, we strongly encourage parental involvement in the classroom and have developed meaningful take-home materials for every lesson to encourage and enable parents to interact with their children over Scripture and the lesson content.

Stewardship of Resources
The resources we offer have been specifically designed for durability and re-use. Although in the first year, an average church will spend approximately the same amount of money, or slightly more, it would have purchasing a curriculum package from another publisher, subsequent years are much less expensive since only our student materials are consumable. Teachers materials including visual aids are printed and packaged for years of re-use.

Long-term Perspective
Our goal is that lesson truths and faith lessons will be remembered for many years. Because take-home worksheets are often misplaced or discarded, they offer little educational value beyond the immediate reinforcement of the lesson. For that reason, we provide both take-home sheets and workbooks. Our workbooks bind student worksheets together and pair each one with lesson information or a memory verse page, which provides children with a review tool and parents with a tool for discussion and re-teaching at home. As children progress through the curricula, they accumulate a library of Biblical truth.

Each child is a precious gift of God. It is a joy and privilege to be a part of a team of parents, teachers and prayer supporters helping children mature spiritually and strengthening families.

Thank you! May our Lord Jesus fill you with a joy inexpressible!

THE GOAL OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ANTIOCH:
“..from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  …that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”   2 Timothy 3:15, 16b

THE PROCESS OF EDUCATING CHILDREN AT ANTIOCH:
“..from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings”

IMPART THE TRUTH

Acquaint children with the whole Bible
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Tim. 3:16

Present the Bible as a revelation of the character and work <purposes> of God
“Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do.” Isaiah 46:9-11

Encourage children to develop a Biblical mindset and a Christian worldview
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

“..from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

ENCOURAGE FAITH

Encourage children to trust in the character and promises of God
“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9

Lead children to recognize their sinful state and to respond in repentance and faith in God
“This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at My Word.” Isaiah 66:2b

Cultivate a love for the Word and a habit of interacting and responding in faith and obedience to the Word
“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.” Jeremiah 15:16
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22

“…from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings
which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
…that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
II Timothy 3:15, 16b

LEAD CHILDREN TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE PURPOSES OF GOD

Help children to see the hand of God at work in this world
“Praise be to the Name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” Daniel 2:20-21

Encourage children to recognize and use their spiritual gifts for the good of the body and the world
“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

Shepherds Institute

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  – Matthew 28:18

At Antioch Christian Fellowship, we recognize that people come from all corners and walks of life. We can’t walk this life alone and need others to keep each other accountable. Shepherds Institute is an intensive discipleship opportunity for 12 months within a small group cohort of believers committed to growing in Christ each day. Please contact the elders for more information.
